Xavier University of Louisiana is a private, historically black, Catholic university in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is the only Catholic HBCU and, upon the canonization of Katharine
Drexel in 2000, became the first Catholic university founded by a Saint. More African-American alumni of Xavier consistently place into medical school and graduate with baccalaureate
degrees in the physical sciences and biological sciences than African-American alumni of any other college of university in the United States.
Xavier's Athletic teams participate in the NAIA and Red River Athletic conferences.
